HPLC with electrochemical detection has been established as a fast and reliable method for the determination of urinary VMA, HVA and 5-HIAA. Clinical kits are available from several suppliers that contain all the necessary chemicals and materials for sample preparation and analysis. The biological samples are processed by an SPE step, followed by a wash and elution step, prior to injection onto the HPLC system. The ALEXYS Clinical Analyzer together with a commercially available sample prep kit is a proven solution for routine analysis of catecholamines. The chromatogram shows an example of an analysis of urinary VMA, HVA and 5-HIAA.
For the analysis of catecholamines we selected the SenCell. This cell has an excellent reproducibility and the best possible detection sensitivity. The system has been optimized and tested with Biorad, Chromsystems and ClinRep (Recipe) kits. Several of our customers have proven that the system is compatible with kits from other suppliers as well (i.e. Chromsystems).
