Betadex Sulfobutyl Ether Sodium (BSES) is a cyclodextrin that is used as a drug delivery solution. In an USP monograph the purity analysis requirements of this substance is described. The ALEXYS Analyzer for BSES meets these requirements. The system uses HPLC with an anion exchange column and a DECADE Elite for Pulsed Amperometric Detection (PAD). In our application note the method performance is demonstrated for the (im)purity analysis of sulfobutyl ether β-cyclodextrin in bulk material.

For the analysis of Beta-Cyclodextrin we selected a Flexcell with gold working electrode. This cell has an exchangeable working electrode which is particularly useful in pulsed electrochemical detection. The electrode material tends to vanish over the years, in the process. Exchanging an electrode disc only takes a few minutes. The HyREF is completely maintenance free even at pH 13! The ALEXYS system comprises the following parts:
This system includes Helium-proof solvent bottles.
